This. One of my best friends was of the opposite sex. We ended up having an affair in our 40s.

It’s possible. I don’t know why so many people act like it isn’t. I’m secure in my relationships. I can separate friendships from sex. Also, I’m bi and I don’t want to sleep with every female friend.

Every woman I know who claims this is a true tease. They need the constant ego boost of flirting with their "best friends". It's not the type of woman I look highly upon.

Definitely possible. But that night when they both get really drunk and one decides to make a move, the other has to have no attraction and be strong enough to not say "what the hell, why not?"

Theoretically possible, I guess, but very small minority. You can't beat biology and nature in this case.

I think both people in that relationship occasionally toy with the idea of becoming more than friends but shoot it down for whatever reason.

It's possible. It might be uncommon, but it's certainly not unheard of. If they don't find each other romantically attractive, then why not? IME, the problems really happen when one person is attracted to the other, but the feeling isn't mutual.

If a guy and girl are both single, is it possible for them to maintain a strictly platonic best friend relationship? Or is it impossible, and their feelings towards each other can develop, and lead to a sexual relationship?
