The comments aren't about SSSA. While several girls from SSSA did make the teams, others (better players) did not. It is a bigger picture. This year they cut some top talent, placed several first class players on the B team, and have players who are noticeably far less skilled. It makes no sense so people are talking. Capital has been accused of unpleasant politics for years, but this year was pretty outrageous.

Yeah, right.

This year, not so much. Finally.

I would have to disagree with this statement

In fact this year the politics were worse than ever. Our girl has graduated out of the program, thank God, but the stories we've heard are pretty appalling. I don't have to keep my mouth shut any more.

I have heard the same thing. Some of the best players were either cut or put on the orange team. No way to spin it either. Apalling.

I’m confused. So what you’re claiming is that attending SSSAS was a factor against making the club?

DP. I don't see that this poster said anything about SSSAS but I agree with the poster that some really good girls were cut or placed on orange because of politics. The girls I heard about were not SSSAS girls. It was appalling the way it was handled and definitely showed off the team in a very bad light.

I think that students from SSSAS do get a big bump in the selection process.

OP here - what I am hearing is essentially having an "in"- in the form of a coach willing to advocate, a sibling, or a good past program - helps, but someone is not going to get cut based on the fact that they don't go to Ireton, SSSA or Visi because it lowers the cache of the roster to have public school kids.

It's a factor like many other things. But how that plays out for an individual girl will vary. For certain girls, it could possibly be the factor that tips one way or the other, but for the most part the impact is in the last couple of roster spots if at all. I personally don't think it plays as big a role as some people think it does. Beyond just skill, other factors like prior club connection, having a sibling that played for that club, etc. probably play a bigger role.

All of the top high school lacrosse coaches advocate for their girls not only to make the club team, school girls/UA teams, but more importantly with college coaches recruiting. If you are going to one of the top 5 lacrosse programs and the coach is an advocate for your player there is a significant benefit to them.

That’s not to say talented kids don’t make the top teams based on skill, only that coaches support from the big programs does and will help your daughter in all areas.

Nope. It's how well you do at the tryout.

Do the HS clubs consider the child’s HS when making their choices? So it it more likely for a girl to get chosen for a HS club team if she plans to go to a more lacrosse-competitive HS?
