They will only see the scores you report. I didn’t report the first scores so they didn’t see them.

Sorry, just found the answer to my question: yes, can take ISEE three times

Testing Policy Students may register to take the ISEE up to three times in a 12-month admission cycle, once in any or all of three testing seasons. The seasons are Fall (August –November), Winter (December– March), and Spring/Summer (April –July). ISEE does not encourage multiple testing, but we do offer students and families that option.

Most of the very selective schools look for higher scores in Reading Comprehension and Verbal than in the math sections - they figure you can teach kids math at this age, but it's much harder to teach them to read better. It also makes a difference if you are applying from public or another private - especially so with math as public schools must stick to a curriculum that conforms to PARCC timelines for the grade. My DCPS kids all came out of the ISEE lower level (5th applying for 6th) saying they had never seen some of the material on the test, which they took in January and December (we have one coming up next weekend, so even earlier in the academic year).

My son is also in 6th applying for 7th. He took the ISEE with no prep and got 3 7s and a 6. We are signing him up for tutoring and he will take it again. He has a history of strong ERbs so we are confident that he can do much better.

My son got one 8 and three 9 ,
He got in to all the schools that we applied.
He is in one of the big 3.
By the way in his first attempt he got mostly 8 and one 7.
He was much more prepared the second time.

my dc got all 9s when he was applying for 6th grade and still did not get into the one "big three" school he applied to in DC. guess it's not all test scores....

7's are fine for all but the most selective boarding schools and some of the day schools in NYC, etc.
I did quite a bit of research into this last year.

We are in NYC. 7s are perhaps just meeting the bar according to our advisors. Many schools are looking for 8s and 9s.

My daughter also just received her results. Her scores are not where they need to be (again, according to guiding wisdom). She will be retaking I’m December.

Ps. We too are proud of her efforts and would be no matter what. When we shared her results with her, we were sure to remind her that ISEE scores are just one aspect of her application. She made the choice to retake the exam in December.

This process sucks.

My son just received test results back from the middle level ISEE exam. He is in 6th now and applying for 7th (to a school outside the DC area if that matters - we use to live in DC but moved a few years ago and I still often use these boards for reference ). He received 7s for all 4 sections. I think this is a strong score but my type A husband is worried that it’s not enough. For those that have kids that have taken the middle level ISEE - do you think a 7 meets the bar for an elite prep school admission?

Ps. We are so proud of our son and the work he put into studying for the exam. He will be proud of him in any and all cases but just trying to put the score in the right perspective for my husband who worries a lot.
