The Families of WVU Class of 2023 Facebook page has many posts about housing already confirmed at highly preferred dorms (such as Summit and Seneca).

Commitment day is May 1st nationally. But be warned, some schools base their housing preference on when you submitted your deposit to commit to the school.

Many kids don’t commit, if at all, until May but put down housing deposits just in case.

I would never assume a standard procedure, I do know that University of Pittsburgh is rolling admission and my kids didn't have to officially commit until May-ish. I live near this school so I know of kids who were one and done and committed as early as October. Check with the school. Also, in some big schools, committing early vs at the last minute can help with housing selections. Rolling is not early decision.

If you apply and are admitted early to a rolling admissions school, do you also have to commit early or can you hold onto the acceptance until April and commit then? (I'm wondering about U Pitt but also wondering if there is a 'standard' approach.)
