Front load garages are an eyesore.

I love our side loading garage. It’s not hard to pull into and out of, and I can turn the car on my way out to pull out of my driveway going forward instead of having to back out from a front loading garage. It looks better. And the best part is that my kids have more room to play (bike, throw a ball, play basektball) and are further from the street. The balls are far less likely to end up in the street with the kids going after them. I don’t see a downside other than that we don’t really use our front door as a pp mentioned.

PP again, typing that out just gave me the obvious solution to my neighbor issue. Next spring the low-lying plants along the boundary are getting replaced with some hardy shrubs that will scratch the heck out of their cars if they don’t learn to back out properly. Any suggestions on a variety?

One of the reasons I don't like them is that it means your front door will never, ever get used. And I like the idea of the kids playing in the driveway at the front of the house where they can be seen.

Only if the yard is big enough to accommodate a sufficiently large driveway that maneuvering is easy without the driveway being most of the yard. And don’t run the driveway right along the property line, my neighbor did that and it annoys the shit out of me every time they misjudge the driveway while backing out and run over my flower bed.

We searched a long time to find the right house with a side entrance garage. We like that the garage doors aren’t a feature that jumps out at you when you look at the house from the front. It’s a fairly sharp turn to park in it, but there is plenty of room to get in and out easily; it isn’t difficult for me, and I don’t have a lot of finesse when it comes to maneuvering cars.

Towards the side yard where the garage is on the end of the house, with windows that make it look like part of the house and the house either sits on a corner lot so you pull in from the side road, or on a huge lot where the driveway has a nice graceful curve? Sure, absolutely.

BUT STILL. I prefer them.

I prefer a side load garage. It looks so much better.

Yes, I would still buy it! Why would a sideload garage be less of an asset than a front-loading garage?

If you come across a house that matches all your expectations (good schools,location,decent commute etc.) and if it has a sideload garage, will you still buy it?
