I've felt rich ever since I knew I could pay for the lifestyle I wanted and still have plenty left over to save for the future. For me, that was around the time I got my first big promotion and hit $150k salary back in 2001. I was only 28 and had a young family and a pretty low net worth. I'm not even sure what my net worth was but probably about $50-$100k. But I felt rich because I had more money than I could ever need.

Seems like ancient history now. I'm 45 with 2 kids in college and a third in high school. My compensation and NW are many multiples more than what they were back then, but that's when I knew I had "made it."

12 Years ago we were in Italy on vacation and after a very relaxing lunch my DW said "do you realize that this year our college costs are $120,000 after tax?" I ordered a second bottle of wine. I'm clueless as to what our net worth was at that point in time but that might have been the moment.

About $1M. Of course, that was in the late 80s and I was a much younger woman.

Irrationally, we don't even think of our 401Ks and home equity as part of our net worth, since they aren't liquid. We realized we were flush the year we paid 4 years of Ivy tuition in one fell swoop and our brokerage account still went up.

We have almost two million net worth. I've felt rich since I had $10k in savings. That was very rich compared to how I grew up. Still feel very wealthy today and anyone who says other wise with similar assets is delusional about how most people live.

I think part of never getting to rich is that it will cost me more than $1 million to put my 4 kids through 4 years of college. Absolutely ridiculous. College costs in America have to change.

I’m at $1M net but still need to get two kids through college and pay off a $375k mortgage.

I’m not feeling it yet. If the house was paid off and we had more saved up for college I’d be happy with $1M net.

Our net worth hit $1mm recently but I still feel poor. We have a lot automatically invested/saved so the actual amount we see in our checking accounts isn’t that much so even as income rises we don’t really feel it. And since I have no plan to spend our savings, it really isn’t impacting how I feel.

Grew up very poor. Have $10M, still don’t feel rich.
