We've been to at least one meet-up and enjoyed it. I wish there were more, but the burden is on the families to organize them and I certainly haven't done that yet! I did contact a counselor early on but have found that the online communities have been a stronger resource for me on an ongoing basis.

There is no holistic look then. The score is a minimum requirement to even be considered. However, just having the 145+ or SAT, etc.. score will also not guarantee you access. I know people who said they had the scores and were rejected. That said, I didn't see their scores. I took their words for it. I am not on a the admissions committee so take my advice with a grain of salt. You can always call and ask and not identify yourself.
For what it's worth, my child was admitted with a 150 IQ and we didn't provide work samples. We did have to answer specific questions though.

You have to have a Standard score of 145+ on an IQ test or on certain sub-tests or you can be accepted with certain SAT, ACT and pSAT scores - https://www.davidsongifted.org/Young-Scholars/How-to-Apply/Qualification-Criteria

We just joined so we're slowly getting acclimated and have used the counselors. I haven't seen any local gatherings being put together since we were accepted in June. I keep looking. Would love to attend with my DYS. I am in the FB Group a lot.

Yes, we go to the seminars. Used the counselor service once or twice. I use the regular Davidson forum. It's a lovely community- JHU CTY is closer and offers a lot of online classes and summer camps too.
