Do you think the ex will remarry or hold out for the full alimony? My bet will be she will remarry to be supported again. $5K and $2K a month are low numbers for COLA in the DMV.

I also gave her a lump sum of almost $500k and volunteered my 1/2 of our joint home which had no mortgage.
Well worth it.

I was married 28 years.
My income was approx. $125k year.
Ex DW made about $45k.
I pay $1600/mo for 10 years or until she remarries. So far I’ve paid 6 years worth.
I also paid $1500/mo child support for my 16YO son. That ended when he turned 18.
I paid most of his college tuition utilizing my income and a very well endowed 529 plan that I set up years ago.
I am now paying his rent while he attends law school on a full scholarship. He’s a hard working young man and I vowed that my divorce wouldn’t affect his ability to achieve his goals.
His mother does next to nothing to support our son. Says she can’t afford it. She has a net worth of a little over $1MM. She could do something.
I get along ok with her but I’m happy to be out of that marriage.

My brother’s ex wife got $2000 per month for life or until remarriage. Married 22 years. She’s a nurse. He made around $250k/year.

My mom was a SAHM who just divorced. She gets $5k/mo for 5 years. HHI had been $250k.

Friend who had a minor disability imo (bad knee) get's it for life or until she re-marries. She was a SAHM to a poodle.

I took him for everything I could. I deserve it.
