Is it any easier for PK4? I'm in the same area as OP but kid is a year older. I don't care much about language immersion though.

If your lottery number isn't high enough to get into Bancroft IB, it may not be high enough to get into these schools OOB (they don't take many OOB). But if OP doesn't have 12 schools on her list, it doesn't hurt to include these.

When considering applying as OOB to any DCPS, I would carefully check the data to see if any OOB were admitted last year: http://enrolldcps.dc.gov/node/61

Schools get popular quickly, so a school that was an option for OOB applicants a year or two ago may not be now.

As PPs have mentioned, Marie Reed and Powell (like many DCPS immersion schools) have enough demand from IB and are unlikely to accept OOB.

I have many reservations about Bethune (we declined an offer a couple years ago for preK3 and the friends that did go had not great experiences) but it's realistic. Otherwise, for prek3, you need to consider your IB, charters, and then OOB schools with low demand (Whittier has done well but gone through waitlist).

No OOB at Marie Reed either for ECE

OOB won't get into Garrison either.

Also Marie Reed is great, but that's a little bit out of your way.

OOB won’t get into Powell. There are IB kids on the waitlist.

There aren't a ton of options in the neighborhoods you mention. WoTP doesn't have PK3. There is CommuniKids in Tenleytown, which is a private, bilingual center that offers free PK3, but most of these types of places give priority to kids who already attend daycare there.

We are IB for Bancroft. I commute to upper northwest every day, so we don’t want to stray too far from Mt. Pleasant/16th Street or west of the Park. We are excited about the possibility of dual language. We care about our kid being in a kind, warm environment with happy teachers.

What would you put on the list in addition to Bancroft (where I understand our chances are low without a sib preference)?

We are fine with dcps, charters or one of the private places that has public preschool (eg Rosemount).

Help me start my list!
