It’s not hoco but it’s close, St Philips Episcopal on Main Street in Laurel
My child is brown OP and while brown is not the majority there are a decent amount.
Our reverend used to be a gay woman but she recently retired. We now have a male but the Church is super open minded with lots of outreach. Once a month we do do a food bank and they need volunteers for the different roles within that. They also make lunches once a month with the kids that get dropped off at Elizabeth house once a month. Currently they’re gearing up to serve a Thanksgiving dinner.
The service itself is similar to Catholic as far as the singing, praying, worship etc….. but without the guilt lol.

By liberal, I mean a church that embraces diversity, focuses on charity, welcomes inclusion, has established humanitarian projects, welcomes women in leadership roles, and truly follows the teachings of Christ. I'm not interested in the UU type of churches, prosperity preaching places, or charismatic type of churches. I just recently left the Catholic church and have no desire to return. So, I am looking for a church that has a similar worship style, but one that is culturally and ethnically diverse. Does a church like this exist in Howard County?
Where would a liberal minded minority like myself who is in a multicultural family feel welcome? There are some cold churches here and I have yet to find one that comes anywhere close to the warmth that I have left behind at my old parish. There are some diverse churches here, but the ones that I have visited all lean towards the charismatic side or the others feel like a hippie convention. I feel so out of place at these type of churches. On the flip side the more mainline Protestant churches have the worship styles that I like, but I'm the only speck of brown in the sea of white. I guess in essence I'm looking for an outlier.

There are various ways to practice a religion. Some religions have a more community and humanitarian focus. While some uses the fire and brimstone model. Wanting a progressive church does not mean that an individual should become an Atheist and denounce the existence of God. Also, some people want a loving church community which lives out the teachings of Christ without the restrictions of having to adhere rituals, dogma, and an opposition to women in leadership roles. There are many churches that have a progressive model in regards to worship, outreach, and inclusion.

OP- I am not Christian, however I recently was involved in a political activity with a lot of members of New Hope Lutheran in the Kings Contrivance area. Very progressive members and a lot of groups devoted to various outreach and resistance to this admin. Maybe it isn't everyone (?), but these folks certainly were unabashedly progressive.

What? This is a huge evangelical church...with a ridiculously large building that invites an entertainment type service. Not what OP is looking for at all.

Grace Church above reads like a bible church, not liberal.
Try different United Methodist Churches especially ones that are "reconciling" which are the liberal ones which accept LBGTQ, even as the larger church does not. Episcopal is more LBgt friendly, but it is Catholic light, In my opinion. Unity Churches, Congregational Churches, Unitarian Churches. But the later are very white from what I have seen in Silver Spring. Quaker Meeting - liberal, but white.
