The car wouldn't be at fault. The driver, on the other hand, absolutely would be.

Drivers are obligated to stop for people in crosswalks. The driver's excuse would be, I couldn't see the child because of the other car. But if you can't see the whole crosswalk, you need to stop, not go barreling through it and hoping no one is there.

That said, small children are difficult to spot, and the parents should be more careful, especially on 2-lane roads. This is now an older gentleman on a recumbent bike was killed a few years ago at the intersection of Little Falls Road and the Capital Crescent Trail, which led to changes in road design.

I would say the message here is be careful when you are driving.

They were biking on a bike trail. They were simply crossing a street, at pedestrian speed. They waited for traffic to stop and then entered crosswalk. They should have been pretty visible with bike and colored gear. Assume black suv was on phone.

This was frightening. This small kid was practically not noticeable for the driver of the black SUV who managed to stop in time. Holy shit!!!

BTW - how did you get the dashboard camera and how can we get one. This was similar to the Russian crash videos on youtube.

Glad the kid is still unharmed and alive. The parents require some knocks on their heads for being idiots.

Striking a child in a crosswalk???? Yeah. Driver at fault.

You have to teach your kid and parent must act as if every car is trying to hit you and act accordingly.

Same applies to Birds.

Umm why is the kid going out on the bike by herself? You get off the bike and walk with your child. If there is no stop sign or flashing lights, drivers typically do not stop at the cross walk. I don’t think you have to, correct? And it looks like the father had safely made it across so the truck that was stopped, blocked the view.

Wow! Car was clearly in the wrong but no way that little biker should have been crossing the street without a parent directly at her side or IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF HER. Yikes.
