That’s cheap. I can’t find any coach in the Rockville area for less than $60/hr. Most are in the $80 or above range.

I would recommend a good futsal program. It will catch him up on touch and technique in a small sided environment.

OP, is he interested in travel soccer? If not, many of the above recommendations are overkill. If he is playing rec, I would just find a teen to work with him. And maybe a winter skills clinic aimed at rec players.

I would look for winter skills sessions. Not sure at the U12 level--many available in winter for younger kids so I assume they are. Often in a gym or other indoor facility, and generally focus on dribbling, footwork, etc. Much more economical than private lessons, and for a relative beginner would probably be just as good...

Thanks for the input. This is all new to me. To answer a PP’s question, he just wants to be a fielder. I think one of the main reasons he wants to play soccer is that it has way more action than baseball. He ultimately found baseball to be pretty boring unless he was pitching. And he would only pitch a couple innings a game, if that.

Do what the PP said. Also, find a wall and have him repeatedly kick the ball against the wall with each foot standing within a yards away from the way.

Hi, all. Baseball has been DS’s sport for years. Now he wants to switch to soccer.
Many of his friends have been playing since 1st or 2nd grade, so he’s behind them in terms of skill.
DH and I would like to get him some private instruction, and are looking for recommendations for private lessons in Northwest DC. Also if you could give us a sense of pricing that would be helpful.
