Not at GW, but my IVF pregnancy had the standard practice of MFM and fetal echocardiagram back in fall 2014.

I have been a GW MFA patient for my current IVF pregnancy and for my first IVF pregnancy in 2015-16. I was directed to an MFM for this pregnancy only based on a test result and not based on IVF. This pregnancy (unlike in 2015-16), I was referred for a fetal echocardiogram based on new studies showing an increased risk of heart issues for IVF babies.

Where are you getting this information? Just curious, as that does not correlate with what I have been told by my RE, midwives, or OBs.

- 2 IVF pregnancies here, and also AMA for both (<40).

+1 That's not what I've heard either.

Op here. I had a successful FET with GW in 2016 following a freeze-all IVF cycle. It wasn’t standard procedure to be referred to MFM then. I had an uncomplicated water birth at 41+ weeks with the midwives at GW. But after speaking with my nurse she stated that it was something new they were doing for all patients. I’m assuming to ensure there’s no reason for a patient to need MFM, but not work with MFM? I had my consult with the MFM already and I’m fine to continue care with whomever I choose.

IVF doesn’t automatically mark you as high risk. It is case-by-case and more to do with Dx, age during IVF, etc.

I conceived my (now 4.5 y.o.) via IVF at GW in 2013. I remember a study that came out around then about higher rates of congenital heart disease in IVF pregnancies, and I asked about whether a fetal ECG was something to consider. Back then, the study was too new to refer it without cause. It's interesting that it's now standard.

Interesting re: MFM. I had several IVF cycles and losses at CFA before transferring to GW. But that still did not make me high risk (I was 35).

Not for me in 2013, but yes that was a long time ago.

What is the reason for this? Interesting.

That seems odd. I've never heard of that before, unless there was something in the woman's medical history that would indicate higher risk.
I got pregnant through IVF in 2015, and all of my care was handled by midwives. Pregnant again at 40 (FET), and will work with midwives again - unless some other issue arises during pregnancy.

That's interesting, but good to know. I'm waiting to hear back now. I spoke with my nurse and it sounds like all are referred to the MFM for a consult and the MFM decides whether the patient can be released to low-risk care.

Is this the new SOP following an IVF pregnancy?
