If you choose such a preschool, keep in mind that you child will need the right clothes to keep warm and dry. The traditional coat and hat that most parents send their kids in won't cut it.

If you do consider VA, Country Day of McLean has amazing outdoor playgrounds.

Good luck getting in . . . impossible.

Not completely impossible-- I think there's an open spot for a 3 year old.

Lowell. They have wonderful playgrounds and my kid is outside multiple times a day. They also take advantage of being next to rock creek park.

SEEC (Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center) has two playgrounds (one outside of American History and one outside of Natural History) and the kids regularly go on long walks between various museums. There is, on the whole, a lot of outdoor time. They often have spaces in the upper grades (e.g. pk-4).

St. John’s in Georgetown. Children spend a lot of time in the outdoor classroom” in almost all weather. You could also look into Waldorf in Bethesda and Audubon preschool in Chevy Chase. There’s another explicitly outdoor preschool in Chevy Chase too, blanking on name by you can google it.

TBH this element is one big reason we are in the suburbs. So many even well regarded DC preschools have no dedicated playground. A couple (SFF, NCRC) do but there’s no guarantee of a spot there. Our suburban preschool has two playgrounds and a huge indoor gym for rainy/snowy days.

Which preschools in NW DC put a heavy emphasis on outdoors? I know I've see a list somewhere but I can't find it right now. Thank you!
