I personally would not let a 10 year old watch TBBT, but I highly recommend Young Sheldon. It's funny and quite sweet, though you have to pay for CBS Access. I wait until toward the end of the season, then subscribe for a month or two while we watch (I also watch The Good Fight, and DH watches Star Trek Discovery). Otherwise, yeah, we watch older shows: Little House on the Prairie, I Love Lucy, Star Trek and educational shows like Cosmos. I'll let them watch PG and sometimes PG-13 action movies too, once I've checked Common Sense Media to see what the issues are. Don't know why everything these days has to have bad language and sex! Makes it tough to find appropriate material for age 9-13 or so.

Yes, the market is huge. Never heard of Netflix or Amazon? Odd.

My 8yr old son actually loved watching Anne with an E. Qe watched it as a family. I really hope there is a season 3!

My kids watch old TV series. They were really into Little House on the Prairie (we bought dvd box set), Laverne & Shirley and Brady Bunch (both on MeTV, but I think they topped running them) a while ago. Now, I just bought the Fame TV series on dvd. Good writing! So much better than Glee which seems to be all about sex. Also, Shaun the Sheep on amazon (they're in middle school and still love this).

The Disney channel stuff is just so bad. I'd rather they watch reruns of The Nanny that run every morning!

+1 to all of the cooking and baking shows. My 10 yo also likes Chasing Monsters. It’s a fishing show.

OP here. I don’t allow YouTube except on a very limited basis as a family. Too easy to connect from an appropriate video to an inappropriate one. Complicating matters is I also have a 7 yo who wants to do whatever her sister is.

My kids love Amazing Race (you can watch old seasons on Netflix or Prime) and they are getting into Survivor.

Agree with both suggestions - common sense media is very helpful and baking shows are very safe. My 10 year old DD loves baking shows.

The Washingtons on Netflix she enjoyed too.

I dislike those shows too, but, I figure they are getting to age where "relationships" are happening on TV. This is the age where I watched Family Ties and Growing Pains and Who's The Boss and they had boyfriends/girlfriends too. It was just handled differently, there was always a "lesson."

Anyway, sorry about the tangent - what about reality competition shows? Like Master Chef Junior, The Voice, things like that?

My 5th grader is pushing for access to some of the older kid Disney shows. I don’t even know the names but I watched a few with her and they were all about boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, which I’d prefer she not watch. I also don’t like shows where sassines/talking back is ignored or tolderated. However I’m ok with, say, Liv & Maddie. What are some of the less objectionable shows?
