We are at a school WOTP and while the PTA provides money to teachers for materials, it does not purchase curriculum. We are stuck with the same lousy curriculum everyone else is, with minimal enrichment and no acceleration.


Please don’t pretend that you don’t have Junior Greatbooks, William & Mary, Lucy Calkins, Words Their Way, etc. At least you have that opportunity that others don’t. While it’s not a true gifted education program, it is something.

Read: it shows a big achievement gap between AAs and all others, so the test is awful and flawed and meaningless.

+1 Nothing wrong with what MCPS is doing. They're at least trying to keep up with the best available educational practices. I'm not sure what DCPS is doing, but it's not that.

I agree, hopefully, DCPS will do the same since now the pressure of MD dropping it and VA never adopting it is now on them.

Even within the Wilson feeder pattern, many people consider MCPS an upgrade.

They are just more honest about their problems than DCPS. DC's curriculum doesn't seem too great either, just no one is talking about it.

Maryland had to change -- they made PARCC a graduation requirement and too many students couldn't pass the test.

Switching tests every 4-5 years -- and spending millions to make a new one isn't great either.

They've put out a bid for development of a new test, that would start to be used in 2019-20.
