Cardio only: 2-3 weeks

Weight lifting: within a week, my body responds quickly and as a woman I hate it

If you don’t like working out you won’t like working out. You need a hobby like biking or rowing. Play to your strengths like if you are competitive.

I feel different in just a few days, but the difference in how clothes fit takes longer.

I agree with focusing on weights/ planks/ squats if you want immediate change.

Also do some squats.
Even feeling a little sore the next day should make you feel like you did something.
You are young and not overweight, you will see results very quickly!

This is good advice. I’m also a 4, sometimes a 6, and definitely have felt flabby. I want to get motivated too. I’m 41 and my cousin who was fit and just 2 years older than me just died from a heart attack. We are vegetarians too! (Think kore pizza and pasta Italian than vegan, though). For me, Health is the motivator. I’ve found I can see the greatest difference with weight training. Machines, free weights, weighted bars, kettlebells. I now have lovely tone in my arms. Squats are terrific too. I hate running and can only stand like 15 mins on the treadmill, but I can do the elliptical for longer. Cardio is my nemesis, as are carbs. I walk, but find that doesn’t really show a great difference.

I challenge you to try this and see how you feel in the morning. Then, tomorrow you'll like that feeling, and you'll do not only the above, but a 20-minute walk, or even just 20 minutes of dancing around your living room/BS with jumping jacks in your basement or something if it is raining.

yes OP do something like this.. your post "nothing crazy" sounds to me like lifting 5 pound weights for 3 sets. "some cardio" sounds like walking ( which is not cardio). You should take before and after pics to measure success don't watch the scale its a total trap. Exercise intensely for 20-30 minutes. ( breathing heavily) use proper form ( you tube if you think there is something off w/ form) shift diet a little away from carbs and over to protein and fat. You should actually see some results in the mirror almost immediately

I’m really trying to get motivated here. Haven’t worked out on any kind of regular basis since before my wedding over nine years ago! I am not overweight, a small size 4 actually, but I am so flabby and gross. I don’t even know how someone that’s on the smaller end of a 4 can be flabby but I am. If I start working out 5 times a week (nothing crazy just some cardio and weights), how long will it take to start looking even semi toned? Or maybe I would settle for “not flabby”. I am 34 if that matters.
