This. If they can't go outside, the school may be crunched for gym space and not have a good option. Teachers are entitled to a lunch break just like anyone else, and may have things they have to do, like an IEP meeting or calling a parent about something really important. So relax.

Totally depends. A clip from Word Girl or Super Why or Dinosaur Train if it fits into the lesson? No issue, probably gets kids excited. One 22 minute show because assessments need to get done or an aide is out that day or they’ve earned a reward or it fits in perfectly to the lesson plan or whatever? No biggie. A regular occurrence, non-educational TV or more than one episode? I’d be unhappy.

Op, I bet I know the teacher/school you are talking about. She was so excited about getting her flatscreen tv- through donorschoose this summer! I wondered how that would play out at the new school. Clearly- not so well

My high schooler sometime pulls out information that makes you think he's brilliant, and when we ask where he learned it he says Magic School Bus in K, or Octonauts.

Go figure.

This. My DD is thrilled that she gets to play "video games". Turns out that's the teacher's word for the assessments they take on the computer. Don't read too much into it. There's a lot of great stuff on PBS Kids and if it's very short and directly related to the lesson, I don't see the harm.

I think it's ok, especially if it's a day when the aide is sick or whatever. I certainly take 30 minutes to slack off at my job whenever I feel like it.

Our teacher lets them watch a brief show at pickup time because that frees her up to converse with parents. A worthy tradeoff.

I'm fine with it as long as it's educational and not excessive.

I'd be very upset about tv at school. That's just plain lazy.

An episode of Magic School Bus or whatever as a reward or birthday treat, or when they have a substitute teacher, is no big deal in my view.

It's apparently not a top school.

Better than letting the kids play video games.

DD attends a top DCPS and has been coming home saying she’s watching TV at school. Today it was PBS kids, apparently. Is this normal? aim appalled that they watch regular shows at school, although I am open to the fact that technology sometimes helps learning.
