My brother is a musician, he's had a couple songs played on the radio. He, along with almost every other musician, has always had a day job. Waiting tables or bartending pays well, if you're at an expensive restaurant, and it's a job you can jump in and out of.

My mother is an author who's had books on the shelf at Barnes and Noble. She, like almost every author, had a day job until she retired.

That Cosby actor working at Trader Joes has me thinking about musicians. There are so many bands and singers that had a 2-6 year run then you never hear from them again. Do these people make enough in the 70s 80s 90s to live off the residuals and streams and dividends of money invested? Find it hard to believe.
