Newport is nice in the fall, too.

Old Quebec is lovely in the early fall before it gets too cold.

That said -- DH and I spent 4 days in Santa Fe last spring and loved it -- great hiking and biking, terrific food, beautiful art in museums and galleries, a place where you really sense the history and culture that have evolved there. If that appeals to you, Southwest flies direct to Albuquerque from BWI. Then it's a quick and scenic drive up to SF -- definitely take the Turquoise Trail route and stop in Madrid for lunch and a hike in nearby Cerrillos Hills State Park.

This sounds nice.

Denver. Mountains cool air Boulder is artsy and fun and a ton of day trips to little towns within an hours drive. Cheap and easy to fly there too.

New Orleans. Also enjoyed Palm Beach, FL.

Boston or Bar Harbor

If the 4 days includes travel time, I wouldn’t go to the west coast. You’ll spend half your time getting there and back.

Martha’s Vineyard is very relaxing for a long weekend.

What time of year?

Any time except the summer, I'd choose Vegas or New Orleans. NYC is great all year long. I also recently took advantage of a flight deal (southwest airlines) and flew up to Rhode Island for a long weekend. Newport is lovely in the summer.

It really depends on what you like. Big city? Natural parks? Disneyworld?

I hate vegas, but I know some people like it.
