I'm 55 and it was a 'thing' when I was in high school in the midwest. It is not a new thing.

For boys and girls and you get sent a graduation announcement that looks like a photo birth announcement, with multiple photos. I have a sophomore and I don’t think he will want to do one, actually I’m hoping he doesn’t b/c I think it is over the top.

Anonymous wrote:When do seniors typically have their (private) senior portraits done? I'm a family photographer interested in getting into that business.

For the yearbook at the school where I graduated, girls had to have the same top but then we all got extra pix in tops that took ages of time to find so that you had just the right look. And don't get me started on the hair or make-up. Even the guys got senior pictures.
I have to say that I still really like mine even though it is 30-35 years later! All that time and effort really paid off. I looked GOOD!!!
All 4 of our seniors got their senior pictures. In addition to it being a great thing to send to grandparents, it is the picture they each used for a while on resumes and college apps.

All the seniors in DC’s yearbook appear to he of the boys in identical tuxes and girls in identical gowns, which would suggest some school-level coordination, but we haven’t seen anything.
