This. There need to be ground rules.
How long can something be left out?
What is the expectation for asking before tossing?
Are there any spaces that is hands off for the tosser?
Any spaces that must always remain clutter-free no matter what?

Sorry folks, it is not always about the other person being a slob. I live with a compulsive chucker. I am not a slob, I don't do clutter,, I'm not a pack rat or a hoarder.

Nonetheless, occasionally my husband feels the need to throw s*** away that doesn't need to be thrown away or shouldn't be thrown away. I've learned to live with it, and I realize it's nothing personal or disrespectful for my husband. He's just compulsive

Throw away his stuff. Fair is fair. Your house will be pristine.

Do you have a basement or storage area that can accommodate a large Rubbermaid tote? I have one that I call “purgatory”. When toys are not played with or school crafts have been forgotten or some object has struggled to find a home in our house and is not being used - into purgatory it goes. When purgatory is full, my husband and I go through it after the kids are in bed and decide what to toss, donate, sell or find a home for.

I throw away my DH's stuff that he hasn't touched in forever. What I find frustrating is when I throw away the kids' shit and he fishes it out because he wants to save it or he thinks they may want it. No, DH, the 5 year old doesn't even remember what was in the goody bag from Larlo's party 2 months ago.

Why isn't the stuff put away once it's done being used?

Get rid of the clutter, don't cover the counters with crap, don't jam the closets with stuff that's never used, don't fill the garage with stuff that you think you might find a use for one day.

Sounds like you need the help of an objective third party to set up some ground rules. That could be a counselor or it could be a professional organizer.

Everything from brand new, still in the box gifts from his family, furniture that’s in good condition, to any toy that is in storage, and pretty much anything that’s been left out. He doesn’t know where to put it, so in the trash it goes, and he won’t even remember tossing it. I’ve fished out so many things out of the trash. Wish he’d spend that time organizing his own stuff instead of getting into my things. Just a rant.

Are you a slob? I do this to my DH’s stuff if he leaves it lying around forever. I doubt he’s throwing away your stuff that you’ve neatly put away. My DH doesnt get mad.
