It’s not about having to wear makeup. I actually don’t wear makeup myself except a little lip stain and mascara a couple times a year. But if a woman does wear makeup and the stores near home only carry shades for Caucasians and Asians, that tells a lot about how diverse or welcoming the neighborhood is. It’s also inconvenient if you do need concealer for a blemish and the CVS near you doesn’t carry your shade, but your date is arriving in 45 min. The same for whether you can get your hair done in your neighborhood. Like OP, I have natural hair. I don’t need chemical treatments, but I do need trims. Most non-AA salons have no experience with cutting 4a or 4b textured hair. I’ve lived in cities where I had to travel across town from my apartment to get a trim, then rush back home to change before a date.


I actually agree with this post. I’m a PP. I could only find makeup in certain neighborhoods in Chicago, don’t deal with that issue in DC. Had to travel pretty far uptown to get my hair braided, my other friends had to travel pretty far down south. Chicago is very segregated!


I don’t want to come across as overly negative. Chicago is a gorgeous city, lots of food and things to do. People are pretty friendly. Can’t go wrong if you’re choosing between DC and Chicago.

It’s okay. I lived there for 9 yrs. Chicago is a larger city so there are more more black people in Chicago strictly by the numbers. I feel like I have more nightlife options in DC, however Chicago started to improve in that area as I was starting to wind down in terms of going out. My SO feels like Chicago has more options than DC, however.

I met my SO in Chicago in 2016, online. He is black. I’ve only dated black but I’m open to other races in theory (practice has been a different matter haha). Never dated in DC so I can’t speak to that. I’ve had some friends of all races do well with dating in both cities and some of all races struggle in both cities. I feel like it performance about as well as any other major city as far as that is concerned.

Op, you will be fine. I’m a born and raised Chicagoan. I’m Caucasian, but have many non-Caucasian friends that date outside of their race. It will doesn’t to some extent where you wil live, but you shouldn’t have any issue. There are plenty of great men of every ethnicity in the city. Chicagi is ethnically diverse, and I think what matters most is whether you have kids. That will be more of an obstacle, because your race will not matter.

There are just by pure numbers more UMC black men in Chicago plus MC/UMC black neighborhoods in Chi are more affordable than DMV comparable neighborhoods. As for interracial dating, I think the attitudes are the same in both cities. I’d go if you can stand the weather.

I don’t have to date where I live, and I’m fair skinned with natural hair and wear very little makeup. Finding makeup isn’t an issue for me. I do date men of other ethnicities.
