Considering how many core Italian neighborhoods in major cities have managed to keep themselves Italian-only...I'd say that the theatrical representation isn't too far off.

It actually doesn’t.

The show is focused on organized crime so the main characters and many supporting ones are criminals or morally dark gray. However, there are plenty of people shown who aren’t that way.

Also, drive two hours from here and you will see plenty of concentrated rural poverty and how it shapes people’s ethical decisions.

No.

They are as much lowlifes and crooks as every single military member walks around all day in full service dress with a chest full of medals while yelling at people in a southern accent while their kids do PT for punishment and call him sir.

Hollywood lives for fake stereotypes.
