Weird in general, but maybe it does help avoid default parenting.

+1. It’s like an email version of a home phone number.

We have a common email address as it was easier to use google calendar that way, as opposed to sending each other invites. We register for most of our online joint accounts that way and it makes things so much easier when we need to pay bills, etc.

I think either completely codependent, or one spouse has major, major control issues. Ditto for shared FB accounts.

The trust/cheating argument is null, because it's insanely easy to create another email account.

We still have a shared email address. It is the same one we got over 25 years go when they charged more for each email account. It is mostly ‘the family’ email, but I am slowly reclaiming it. It is a legacy of us being around so long. I don’t want to change it because it would be a hassle.

My one friend my age did this with her ex; there was cheating involved.

Everyone else I know who does this is old, like 55+

I think she gave you their "spam" e-mail address because she's just not that into you. She was being polite but isn't really interested in relationship that's anything more than kid-related logistics.

Having a separate email address for family/kid/school stuff doesn’t mean they don’t each have their own private email accounts.

Really? My observation is that usually they are old and don't really use email very much.

I have considered setting up one of these and putting forwards to DH and me because for some reason, a lot of schools have to have ONE email address and if they are told to send something to multiple places, the chances of both people receiving whatever it is are slim...
