That's very strange, OP. Just the fact that he'd stay in the same shop with you and your kid ignoring you but talking to another kid for 15 minutes is bizarre. I'd say something to my sister but she's not crazy and reading between the lines it sounds like you think your BIL is too good for your sister and possibly too good for you (his inlaws).

While sister is in the room "hey, what a coincidence seeing you at the (ice cream shop)". Then say nothing. You have no proof. You aren't accusing him of anything. You are just stating a fact.

I was at my favorite ice cream shop the other day (it is a small gourmet ice cream shop that also serves coffee and tea). I was there with my daughter and as we were eating our ice cream, my brother in law bursts through the back entrance of the ice cream shop, with a huge smile on his face and goes barreling toward the counter - he was clearly very excited. I look over, thinking he's coming over to say hello to us, only to realize that his enthusiasm is directed toward the young lady behind the counter (attractive, slim about 20 years younger than him). Once I get his attention, he looks a little uncomfortable, comes over and mumbles a short hello to me and my daughter and then goes and sits down at another table but doesn't order anything. He then moves to an adjacent table and starts small talk with a child around 5 or 6, who is clearly a relative of the lady behind the counter (I could tell by the interaction between the lady behind the counter, the boy and some other relatives who were sitting at another table). My daughter and I were there for about 15 minutes and my BIL spent pretty much the entire time with the little boy. I feel like he was biding time, trying to wait us out so he could resume his conversation with the girl behind the counter. As background, my sister was out of town and their two kids (pre-teens) were at home. My DH says I should mention something but I am not sure. My BIL spoils my sister to death and puts up with a lot of stuff that most husbands wouldn't and he's also an amazing dad. I am not sure what happened here but my spidey senses went up - I'm not sure what my obligation is to my sister. I don't want to cause drama if there isn't any (my BIL is generally a very chatty, friendly guy) and my sister has a quick temper and ordinarily overreacts to the extreme to everything; at the same time if there 's something she needs to know, then I want her to know. My relationship with my sister is great and my BIL is very accepting of us (his inlaws). What would you do?
