The PARCC isnt telling you much and is probably MORE subjective than other tests.

I posted above about the scores. As a parent, I want information about how my child compares across the country. I remember when MD public schools used to give Iowa tests which are nationally normed. I don't care how well my kid does in the state of Maryland. I want to know how he compares to the entire country because in a few years, that is how he will be judged.

Aren’t the MAPs nationally normed? Don’t you get those 3 times a year?

that could be fun or awkward I suppose lol. as long as no one is judging.

my kid did quite well-had no idea since this was her first rigorous test. got in the top 4% for English lang arts, and also level 5 in math. but didn't even get wait listed for the gifted programs. I hope she has a good 4th grade year with teachers that engage her.

I was happy to get the scores today, and a group of us are now comparing scores of our DDs on a group chat. Fun way to see how everyone is doing!

I can tell you one way they are used - one of my kids has been chosen to go into one of the new "magnet level" humanities classes when she starts at MS this Fall. That decision was based on her magnet test results, her PARCC and her class grades.

I presume the OP meant their child’s paper scores arrived in the mail. I don’t think schoolwide scores are online yet.

Op here- they were mailed home and I only got a report for one of my kids.

So for me, I appreciate any test that is not created by or graded by MCPS staff. As a parent of a child with an IEP, I like to know how she compares with others when she does not have support right at her shoulder. I also like MAP testing.

I wouldn’t mind the end of PARCC as it is so many days, but hope that they find another standardized test.

Well for one child at least! A little earlier than past years so that is good. One thing that I thought was interesting was that according to the chart only 5% of Maryland earned a Level 5 for Grade 6 math. I wonder how that compares to MCPS with all of the push with compacted math. At Hoover, the school average was 771, which is a high level 4. It does look like Hoover was pretty high throughout as far as averages go.

I love having actual data as compared to subjective grades so looking at the reports actually makes me happy!

Anyone from other schools have any interesting insights?
