We have a perennial variety that former owners planted. It is vigorous enough that I am constantly ripping out sweet peas, but they do look and smell lovely all over the gardens.

You just have to find the right varieties for our area.

Update - I planted them in September and the green shoots, which were protected from frost and wind by a hedge, appear to have improbably survived so far! Hoping for flowers in a month or so. : )

From seed? What is the maturity range on the seed packet? The problem will be the length of time it takes for them to grow from seed and bloom. That can take 3-4 months, so you won't see flowers until Thanksgiving and by then, night time cold will have killed them.

If you can find some in nurseries and transplant, I think they'd be fine right now.

Any chance of success/fall flowers if I plant sweet peas late this month, hoping for an approximation of spring's cooler temps that will trick them into growing and blooming?
