I’m thinking troll with a sense of humor. Parody of the UVA nut jobs.

Possibly. But the school still deserves its own forum.

I'll tell you who is jealous of Virginians, and that is we Californians. UVA lets in about 75% Virginians. The in-state tuition is a bargain. Meanwhile, out of state tuition is in the 45K range, and your kid cannot establish VA residency unless a parent lives there.

In CA, the University of California system (UCs, such as UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley etc) lets in some ridiculously low % of Californians, because they are looking for out-of-state or out-of-country students to subsidize the California kids. They also have a deal with the CA public HSs to let in their top 10% of kids. But these publics don't hold a candle to what I've seen with the Arlington HS system. So many families go private. Then the private kids are SOL with respect to getting into their state schools bc those few spots are taken by public school kids.

So...I don't know why any Virginian would scoff at the UVA deal. Great school, great price.

It’s not 75 percent. Good luck with the application. Guessing you wished you still lived in Arlington.

Huh? Who’s jealous? DH and I both went to better colleges than UVA. I got into UVA for grad school and turned them down.

CA is known for horrible public schools. We moved there before we had kids and after two years, we vowed we’d make it back here before we had kids in school.

However, it’s nearly impossible to get into UVA from northern VA. At our HS it’s about a 4.3 gpa and a 1490 on the SAT minimum. My cousins with much lower stats that didn’t get into UC Berkeley, both got into UVA.

Screen shot your naviance to prove that, please.

UVA offer a world-class education, producing more Rhodes scholars than any public university in the US and many of the most elite privates as well. It is a first choice school for highly intelligent, accomplished, and candidly beautiful, athletic, and extraordinarily well rounded high school graduates from all over the country. And if you go there from in state, it’s an absolute bargain. So why is everyone so jealous of it? Why aren’t we thrilled to have such an attractive option right at our front door?
