They really respond to what DC parents want so there is still amazing academics with less homework and more extracurricular options. We are very happy although we are considering a move to VA for high school next year to give a more traditional "high school" experience and to bring her instate for university. I don't know any unhappy basis parents who visited the school with their kids and have their kids the option. It was dd's first choice and she is at home in this school. I have heard that some parents don't like it but if that's true, they must have not given their kids the option.
Best of luck! We're lucky that we got in years ago!
Why lucky? Everybody who wants to go got in years ago, and almost everybody gets in today.

I'm have 2 kids at BASIS and while not nearly as gung-ho as this PP I agree the school is getting better and is trying to address long-standing issues (e.g. ELA instruction/curriculum in middle school as evidenced by the significant improvement on 2017 PARCC).
Some not great teachers didn't return this year although they lost a couple good ones too.
The current HOS (who actually was brought back for a second year!!) is really strong. Not sure the rest of her admin team is up to her level, but most people aren't. Hopefully the BASIS powers that be in Arizona will let her stay put for at least another 2-3 years to cement what she is doing.[/quote
Doubt it, when has a HOS school stayed more than 2 years? Not the BASIS system.
