This is normal in Baltimore too but I wouldn't consider it a southern city.

Wake Forest does not have much diversity. Elon attracts lots of Jewish Kids so at least there is religious diversity

I would not say that "Athens is a fantastic city" but more of a fantastic college town cause that is what Athens is. A super cool college town.

We recently visite Wake Forest and Elon. Coming from the DC area, it was surprising to me that all of the food service workers, security staff, and construction workers were black and the students and administrative staff were white. I haven’t really spent time in the south before, so this may be normal there, but it rubbed me the wrong way.

I went to UGA for grad school. Athens is a fantastic city and I really enjoyed my time there (I say this as someone who had never lived south of northern NJ until that point).

I am just going to stay away from the Nasty Comments here... But to answer your question. The UGA vs Clemson (I am going to throw Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina in the mix as well) are very popular choices for many here in Atlanta ( I live in Roswell Ga) I think that if I was coming from the DC area, my top choices would be UGA and Alabama with South Carolina right behind it.

All of these schools are going to be large state schools with lots of rah rah spirit. Basically a wash when it comes to that.

UGA and Clemson are going to be the highest rated academically , but it will come down to strength of programs

UGA attracts lots of kids from the Atlanta area. but not as many OOS kids. Alabama and South Carolina probably have a higher number out of state kids. More diversity at these schools.If you are coming from DC you might feel more comfortable at one of these schools

Both Clemson and Auburn are in the middle of nowhere. Not a lot of diversity at these schools.

As it is, my daughter choose to go to Ohio State instead of UGA. She wanted to go out of state and wanted to be in a city. Georgia would have been a great choice as well. Did not consider any of the other schools.

My 11th grader will consider UGA as well and maybe Alabama. Would love to have the option to go to Maryland, but without any OOS merit, it will not even be an option.

If you have any specific schools about these Southern Schools or others let me know. I am very familiar with all them
