We also get the obnoxious ads that redirect us in the middle of reading/writing

I don't have control over in which forums ads appear, but you might be able to stop that one if it has a small triangle in the corner. If you click that, you should have the option to not have it shown to you again. Frequently that option doesn't work, but sometimes it does.
