All people with unchecked powers are shady. Has very little to do with religion and everything to do with teaching people to stand up for themselves. What is the #metoo movement? Same thing. Every "industry", including organized religions, have this problem. Children should be taught to be strong and powerful, not weak and meek. Same for women. Let's get people empowered!

because I went to catholic school, I was indoctrinated and never taught about atrocities by the church. I was taught that there were non-believers and people who had broken away from the true church. So for a person like me, this is new. I don't' have my parents shaming me for questioning anymore.

I can't reconcile it. I think it is one of the great tragedies of the last 100 years, especially when you think of all the lives it has ruined systemically, secretly, families wondering why

My earlier post on another thread was deleted, but I really focus on the relationship I have with other Catholics and with the clergy that I directly work with. I don’t think everyone who won’t leave MCPS for homeschooling is condoning sexual abuse or won’t emigrate from the US due to Trump is condoning the separation of families.

I survived six years of CSA by a relative. After the final assault, Catholic Charities therapists and the medical staff at a Catholic hospital cared for my body and mind. I got nothing from the state of MD. They declined to prosecute my abuser because he was a 70 year old man who was dying. The state put the cost of prosecution above me. Oh, and he went on to assault more girls before he actually did die.

As a Catholic, I am extremely angry that even now in the face of such revelations they are not willing to even entertain the ordination of women. Women are much less likely to rape people or engage in the sexual abuse of children. Why wouldn't this be the logical solution to this problem?

How are you able to reconcile practicing the Catholic faith after yesterday's release of more sexual abuse by priests? I ask out of genuine curiosity.
