Medicaid covers nursing homes, not assisted living.


There are a few sliding fee programs, I don't remember which but really none providing the level of care he may need. At that income the only option is a nursing home via medicaid (special not regular medicaid). Its near impossible to get a bed going in as a medicaid. It took us 9 months to get a bed and most nursing homes refused. You have to find the bed, then apply. So, if you cannot prepay a month, many nursing homes refuse as if you are not approved they have to eat that cost.

You will not, except in low COL states including eg Florida.

The short answer is "no." However, look at Chesterbrook Residences in Falls Church.

That said, if he's an alcoholic, that will be a problem.

OP, do you belong to a church, synagogue, or other faith community? Sometimes they can help you find resources that you may not have considered.

OP here, I don’t think qualifies yet for nursing home care because he can dress himself, for example.

OP here, thanks for the suggestion. He needs help with his medicine and he generally gets confused easily. He has early stages of dimentia.

How much assistance does he need? You might want to think about renting a studio apartment and hiring caregivers. Also, look into Meals on Wheels and services provided by your local Agency on Aging.

The DC area is extremely expensive for assisted living. Have you considered Williamsburg? We have friends who found something within their budget there. We have other friends who found reasonable prices near Pittsburgh.
