Also, it must just be an old wives tale but I had heard that if the front of a car is lifted up, like to be towed, then that height change causes the alarm to go off. I guess it wasn't true otherwise the police would have suggested it when someone from the complex called.

But still really interested in knowing how long it took the alarm to drain the battery!!!

So much sympathy for you OP! Our condo had an alarm going off last night for three hours.

Easy fix.


Find car.

Break drivers side window with hammer or rock or whatever.

Open door

Locate hood latch, pull.

Open hood, find battery.

Pull off (or cut with wire cutting pliers) red battery cable

Done

I honestly can't believe this isn't against the law.

We had one in my apartment complex that went for over 12 hours! It was a brand new (at the time last year) 2017 car, so the battery was pretty fresh.

Our apartment complex called the police and then sent an email to everyone that there was nothing the police could do. They also said they couldn't have the car towed because it was legally parked with a permit.

I think when something like this happens a fine should be imposed by the leasing office or HOA or something. The resident whose car it was never even posted any kind of sorry messages in the buildings either. If I came home to find out my car alarm had even gone off for an hour I'd be so mortified and apologetic. I'd be baking dozens of I'm Sorry cookies for everyone.

A guy in another building said he knew which wires to disconnect under it to make it stop and was too afraid b/c of the security system we had there. Those people are still known in our complex as The Car Alarm Douches.

Wow. You would think that those things would shut off after a certain amount of time. I had no idea that they would go on and on like that. What is the point of them doing that?

at that point. I'd almost be willing to break the window just to open the hood so you could disconnect the battery.

Neighbors (and new ones at that) car alarm stared going off a bit after 8. Still going strong. They aren’t home and both travel frequently for work so I bet they’re both out of town. I believe a loud rumble of thunder/lightning crack set it off.

I guess several people in my neighborhood called the police because an officer just knocked a bit ago to let us know there was nothing they could legally do so no one else needed to call the non-emergency number. He said messages had been left for the owner and other than waiting for the battery to die, nothing can be done.

Of course we also have nonstop barking dogs on top of the car alarm as well, so Monday is ending so well.

DW and oldest kid left a bit ago for Walgreens for some earplugs. Noise canceling headphones get uncomfortable after a while in bed.
