I would totally do it. The immersion programs are going to end up going to 8th grade so if it works you will be set until High School. If it doesn't work, put him back in Private.

I'm the PP about the kid possibly getting a spot in our lottery choice. Turns out she did get a spot (this was really unexpected to me since she started out at 88 on the waitlist for a school with only 75 total spots). She starts on Monday (kindergarten as well). I was super worried (still am) about changing her since I feel like just starting kindergarten after preschool/daycare is a big change in itself and she seemed settled into her neighborhood school. We went over to the new school yesterday and met her teacher and it turns out she already knows her from the teacher's part time job. So that makes me feel a little better. Perhaps take your child over for a visit?

I don't think moving a kid a month in is a problem. If it is a program you want your child to be in you should do it.

It depends on the alternative, right? Also temperament of your child. Personally, I'd do it in a heartbeat in kindergarten, even for my kid with anxiety. That's still really young and an age where it's easy to make friends.


Thanks, this is helpful. My kid is super social with other kids. The program overall is something I really want for my child. The academics are slightly better as well. It's a ton more inconvenient transport-wise, but I think it would be worth it.

After being close to 100 on the wait list, my child has moved up to less than 15, with the numbers dropping every day. So now i'm wondering - if my child does make it in by the end of the month, how do we manage the transition to a new school after 1+ month at the original school? This is a kindergartner. The new school would have entirely different schedule, would mean bus riding instead of car drop offs, etc. What do you think?

You should call Hanson Montessori and inquire about the status of their wait list and approximately when (or if) you can expect to see movement anytime soon.

We are #2 on the wait list for Pre-k 4 year old at Hanson Montessori. The website has not had any movements since it went up . I know the wait list is open till September 30th however do we really have a chance of getting in? Any ideas or experiences with being this high on the wait list for this school?
