Now moving onto suggestions: what can we do besides visit the usual tourist attractions and lounge at the pool? Any specific places or (cheap) restaurants that people like?

Why’d you choose this destination?

This sounds like it is going to be a girls weekend away where half the group is going to be pissed because the other half is too cheap to do and doesn’t want to do anything and the other half is pissed because the rest only want to do things that the cheap half can’t afford. Misery on the horizon.

The red flag should be if $25/-30 per night additional is a problem that would make or break people being able to go.
And that $155 in any type of populated area is too expensive for a hotel.

OP what do you consider cheap in terms of meals? Likes/dislikes?

Pick up lunch at Take it Away on the corner or sandwiches at Bellair Market and head to a winery or the UVA grounds/lawn for a picnic.

There's a nice Omni on the downtown mall. I also like the Residence Inn but it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for.

I agree $155 for the Boars Head sounds like an amazing price though. I thought that place would be like $300/night.

That is cheap for Boar's Head but likely because it's restaurant is going through a renovation.

University Inn at Darden might get you closest, but I think you'll be hard pressed to get to $125 this time of year.

Crozet really doesn't have hotels, but if you go over the mountain to Waynesboro, you can definitely find motels for under $125.

Thursday night sunsets at Carter Mountain are free and fun
Fridays after Five at Sprint Pavilion on the Downtown Mall are free and fun
Picnic on the Lawn at UVa
Breweries, wineries, cideries, distilleries all over the area

You should stay at Boar's Head if that is what you like.

$125 sounds crazy cheap to me and Boars head at that price is a steal. Maybe look closer to Crozet if you are trying to save - there's a lot of great stuff that direction (blue ridge, wineries, Blue Mountain Brewery) and maybe it's cheaper?

Looking for a nice hotel/resort for a few nights in August that's in or around Charlottesville. The Boar's Head looks nice but at $155/night it's just a little too pricey. I think $125 is about the max. I tend to like places with a more rural settings and a nice pool. It doesn't need to be walkable to anything.

Also, what are your favorite things to do or places to eat in the area? Monticello and the pedestrian mall are already on the list.
