And, flocked hangers! DD has more closet space than drawer space. Flocked hangers really are space saving.

Subject: Dorm checklist--anything you'd recommend?
These are the things my DD forgot;
- umbrella
- flip flops for shower
- comfy socks (didn’t want to be barefoot in dorm like she was at home)
- Poo Pourri spray/drops (communal bathroom)
Also, I made my DD a small first aid kit that included ear thermometer plus probe covers, bandaids, array of travel size meds (Tylenol, ibu, Pepto, Tums).
Be forewarned; you may see lots of Pedialyte and wonder why. Dehydration and hangover cure.

Brita pitcher, clip on lamp for the bed, long charging cables, a big power strip, hooks for wet towels (if there's a communal bathroom)
My DC went to school 25 hours away (by car), so we ended up flying her out with a bunch of suitcase and picked some stuff up at Bed Bath & Beyond that we had pre-ordered at a store here. She flew with a snowboard and longboard and had her bike shipped (a local bikeshop packed and shipped it for us). We could have shipped more stuff, but shipping boxes is expensive and luggage was free.

Our kids would rather do without than shop.
Many of the kids in our neighborhood seem to just keep buying whatever pops up as a want.
OP here. Not too big a shopper. She understands that there is only so much space.

I’m sure you mean well, but this is one of those things that you should really investigate before purchasing, because each school is different. Two of my kids had “risable” beds in their dorms- ie no need for blocks, the beds themselves just came apart and you rose them that way - and the other two bunked their beds to make more room so blocks would’ve been useless. Other schools may provide risers.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ideas like the thermometer are especially useful--wouldn't have remembered that.
The beds there are "loftable," so we won't need risers.
Keep those ideas coming!

They sell risers at bed bath and beyond and probably at the college's school store as well.

We are sending our first off to college. DD has a checklist, and we've been shopping for the sheets, towels and storage units. Roommate has a small frig. Veteran parents, is there anything big or small that you would recommend we send off with her? She will be 12 hours away, so we want to pack with care.
