Second, I think parents are afraid to put a lot of even semi-detailed information on these public boards. I had a teacher tell me that APS monitors this stuff (hi, y'all!). We love our listservs in Arlington. If people are looking for information on specific schools and help with tough situations, join SEPTA, the ArlingtonReading or ArlingtonADHD yahoo groups, MONA special moms, etc. Offer to chat offline. You can learn a lot that way. Arlington parents are a super nice bunch, and many are tired of living in the silos created by their kids IEPs and 504s.

how do you join arlington reading or arlington ADHD yahoo groups? I'm thinking we fit into both of these categories and we need help.

My NA elementary was very dismissive of my child’s obvious very sudden cognitive drop off. They said they would not test DC because DC “was not failing and they don’t have to test unless a child is failing.” Thousands of dolllars later, we got private testing that showed 3 grade levels behind in reading and serious issues in other areas! Grrrr!

We are also in N. Arlington, and I find myself wondering if we are at the same school as the earlier poster who was laughed at. I hope that's not how APS is training people to handle situations of disagreement with parents/doctors.

We have had similar experiences at both a NA Elem and a MS. Have even elevated it but Central Office DOES NOT CARE. Literally, I'm not sure what would make APS care.

I wouldn’t trust a neuropsyche report from any school. I think that they laughed/scoffed at it is to make you second guess yourself and then trust the school. I know of a situation where the school didn’t accept genetic testing report that showed a significant impairment. Find a team of professionals that you trust and stick with them.

I would take any comments on particular schools with a grain of salt. People tend to be long on complaints, short on substantiation here.

What kinds of interventions and accommodations did they refuse?

Why did they laugh at the KK report?

I heard that institution was highly regarded and people traveled cross county to see specialist there.

We just started going so nothing to compare it too, but I am curious.

I haven’t found it that hard to get services. They like their excellent test scores, so they give lots of kids IEPs. I used the school’s report. This is N. Arlington.

I have an 8 year old who is on the waitlist at both KK and Children's for a neuropsych evaluation Does APS prefer the evaluations to be done at one location over the other?
