Rumor has it that the charter funding mechanism will change so that it is no longer driven off of enrollment at count day but will adjust to enrollment changes. Does anyone know about this?

It's the database of what school each kid is in. That's how they know how many kids they have.

Move decisions are really personal. Some people are willing to move around a lot and sort of climb a ladder. Others like to stay put at a convenient option, minimize disruption, and hold out for a good lottery number. (That's my approach-- no way am I driving far for something I don't love.)

Sometimes news comes out about a school after the lottery, or people are disappointed with their teacher assignment, or something changes like the school announces a future move. Or sometimes people realize that everyone else they know is leaving the school so they want to leave as well. It really just depends on the circumstances.

1) Data freezes on October 5 at 5 PM, but duplicate enrollments can be fixed until the 11th. The actual OSSE site visit may be on a different day.

2) Yes, they may cut it down to even 24 hours. So be prepared!

3) I think people are willing to switch right up until the first day, but after that much less so. And switching more than once during a school year is a harder sell. But for a top choice or for sibling togetherness, people will do it.

Count day is approximately the 1st week in October.

When you get close to it, if you get a call for a spot, you may need to accept it and have your papers in hand within hours.

There are 2 schools of thought on accepting waitlist offers after school starts -
1. We have a routine, it is working, we are going to decline the offer.
2. We will jump no matter what

Set 1 does not exist until school starts - which influences more people turning down spots beginning the last week of August.

When is count day this school year? And do schools give you less of a turn around time as we get closer to count day to accept offers?

Also, do most parents tend to not accept waitlist offers the closer that we near the start of school year and even right after the school year starts?
