NP here and the better question is whether you could have bought an after-market extended warranty on the vehicle for cheaper than the CPO markup. Generally, the answer is yes.

Agree with this.

I like buying CPO cars coming off three year leases with about 25,000 miles on them. You'll pay a modest premium over one with 40-50,000 miles but I think it's worth it.

I've bought 2 CPO cars and my general rule of thumb is not to a buy a car where the previous owner put more miles on it per year than I would. I easily put 15k+ miles per year on my car so if a car had more miles than that put on it a year I'd be a little worried.

As far as brand I think a Toyota or Honda with 50K or less miles on it is fine and has a lot of life left in it.

I like buying CPO for the extended warranties and inspections that come with the car. If a car isn't eligible to be sold as CPO I'd be worried as to what was wrong with it.

My last 4 cars have all been Hondas or Subarus that I bought with 100k+ miles. They are great.

I've done this twice before and it worked out well -- one had 39k, the other had 23k.

Now as a parent with two small kids I want maximum safety technology on an SUV, but also want to pay under $30k. Saw an Acura MDX with 50k miles on it that meets my needs but would prefer less mileage.
