I got a sporty car as a teen. Never crashed it once. Those kids probably would have done show off mode either way as it is their personality.

I would add to this to get something she can't drive a huge crowd of friends in, too. The more teenagers in the car, the worse the teen driver drives. That's why some states are phasing in licenses in steps -- first a permit where you need a parent in the car when you drive, then a license but you can't have more than one other teen in the car, and then full driving privileges. (Illinois was the first I heard of this, but I think it's more widespread now.)

We are looking to get a used car for our soon to be senior daughter who will be getting her license this summer. It will be used mostly for driving to school and work. She will also be driving her brother to various practices, etc.

Looking for something reliable and also not a fortune to insure.

Suggestions? Also, any recommendations on best places to buy - dealer or Carmax?

Have never purchased a used car - always bought new so new experience for us.
