You don't need a ring to propose. Ask her to marry you! If she says yes, go ring shopping together.

This is probably the best guidance you are going to get. What are her hobbies? Anything sporty and/or dirty - take that into consideration and maybe consider platinum (for strength) so she doesn't have to worry about it and can still wear it all the time.

To get a woman who doesn’t wear much jewelry? She’s beautiful, dresses well, but doesn’t wear a ton of jewelry on a daily basis. What is an appropriate style and carat? I am proposing to my girlfriend of a year soon.
