Newschannel 4 does a community shred several times per year.

The lines are long but very efficient. They dump it into the shredders right there.

It’s been several years since I lived in MD but I used to take my stuff to a place in Gaithersburg that offered free shredding for individuals. It was free if you left it with them in the bin but I believe you could pay a fee to watch it get shredded.

Eh, I have taken it to the UPS store and they put it in the bin until they shred it and I'm fine with that.

DC offers shredding the first Saturday of the month at Fort Totten. There is a limit on the number of boxes you may bring.

Arlington county has shredding day. Huge shredder set up and you feed your content in and watch it get shredded.

If you live in MoCo, they have a free public shredding event once every 1-2 months. You drive up, and somene takes the boxes out of your car and it gets loaded into an on-site shredder.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a company who will shred 5-10 boxes of paper on site (either I bring it to them and they shred it right away, or they come to my house and do the same?) I’ve looked into a few shredding companies, but most of them take your stuff and lock it in a secure bin and then shred it at some point down the road. For most sensitive documents, I’d be okay with this, but my old tax returns, which also include all supporting bank statements, etc, I don’t think this is a good idea.

Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks very much!
