82% of the W&L students are in frats/sororities. Davidson is a much smaller percentage, and the sororities are eating houses where anyone can join.

That's one difference.

W&L and Davidson are completely different, in different states, and have nothing to do with each other. W&L is by far the more conservative and Dixie of the two.

Claremont and Pomona are right near each other, both are part of the Claremont Colleges system, they exchange students, faculty and courses, and the feel of the Claremont Colleges is that os a smaller university system that has high rankings.

Because in 2018, seeking a school that is as undiverse (white) as W&L sends a signal. Not a great one. My white kid would never consider it even if it were ranked number 1 by USNews.

What do you mean by “politically diverse”? Can’t speak for Washington and Lee, but Claremont McKenna might have a handful of moderate or vaguely Republican faculty members. Which, in turn, might make it more politically diverse than most of its peers.

I’d say Claremont McKenna is significantly more prestigious than Washington and Lee. Plus, it doesn’t have a name that is cringe inducing.

Don't worry about reputation in the job market. The hiring manager will either have heard of it or not. And it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things.

Both are established schools with excellent academics and both have loyal alum networks in their respective regions.

By the way, while both schools have their similarities I'd imagine the vibe is different enough. W&L is unabashedly southern. CMK is California. Not hippy California. But still California. Two different things.

Claremont McKenna admitted 8.9 percent of applicants to the Class of 2022. They had about 7,000 applications..

I can speak to CMC as a grad—lots of people in the world at large have never heard of it. I vividly remember once in the city of Claremont meeting someone who wasn’t familiar!

But in the job market, among hiring managers...especially in DC but I work in tech and it’s true there too: People absolutely know it as a very strong school. And the alumni network is small but mighty.

Our child is interested in these small liberal art colleges because they have a more pre-professional and politically diverse environment while maintaining a high academic standard, but we are concerned about how good their reputations are in the job market. Thanks.
