Write a good Google or Yelp review. That will help them the most. We gave our vets a card and brought Georgetown cupcakes for the office after our pet's passing. And we have been referring them to anyone who will listen.

I would send a card thanking them for all they did for you and your dog and letting them know how much it means to you/how much you appreciate it. Vets are animal lovers and putting a pet to sleep can be really hard on them so hearing thanks from the people they helped can mean a lot.

And yes, give them a good review online. So many vets yelp pages are overrun with reviews complaining that "this vet wouldn't treat my pet for free, what heartless bastards" and "they're just in it for the money" kinds of reviews. Having that countered by people showing appreciation for what vets do is really important.

My vet did this for us, and I think doing the same for them would mean the most. Donate to a pet rescue (Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, Humane Society, APSCA, etc), and there is a spot to indicate that the donation is in memory of (your dog), and there is a spot to indicate that you gave a donation in your pet's name on behalf of the veterinarian's office. Then the person/business will receive a card.

It meant so much to me to receive a card that read, "McLean Animal Hospital has donated $________ to (whatever rescue foundation) in loving memory of Abby." It made me feel that Abby's life had been honored and that she was helping others.

Give them a good review on Yelp, send a card to the doctor and staff thanking them for their help through a very difficult year and a half, and send fresh fruit. It's a great season to send fruit right now, and people love free food at work.

I had to put my beloved pet down last week, the veterinarian staff and the primary veterinarian/owner had done so much to support me and my pet over the past 18 months. As a final act of kindness, the veterinarian came over to our house, put her to sleep, and let us bury her in our backyard (which was her favorite place). I couldn't have asked for a "nicer" way to send off my furbaby, it was peaceful and I am very thankful for all that they've done for me and my family. As I'm starting to come out of the fog now and can likely have a conversation with them without completely breaking down, I'd like to provide a nice gift to the office and to the doctor. Do you have any recommendations or ideas? TIA.
