Two Kids = $4800 per kid annually.

Started 3 months after they were born.

They are 13 and 15 and we're saving $1k/per month for each. But we didn't start any college savings until they were in elementary school and have slowly ramped it up as salaries have increased.

Nothing. She's gonna have to apply for financial aid and scholarships.

We have three kids under 7. We sold a property and made about $80k, which we dropped into college funds. We have about 90k total saved. We really only can put about 3-4K per year total into the funds otherwise.

You're not alone. I'm just now starting ours, kid is 6. That's about what I can contribute too. I got $2500 from my parents.

Thanks - i feel alone (and poor) a lot of the time. We’re lower income for the area (85k combined) and I feel proud of every penny we save for college.

Congrats to you both!! Your child/ren will be grateful for anything you might be able to provide. I cashed in my CDs from growing up (first communion, confirmation, graduation, etc) to buy my law school books. It wasn’t a lot of money considering the loans I was signing at the time, but not having to pay that few thousand made a huge impression on me. The generosity of family giving what they could with an eye towards my future was an amazing gift.

We did the prepaid and now I just put lump sums in when we can. I try to put $5-10K or more a year in.

I did Virginia prepaid for both and ~100k is Currently in Invest for them to split. The first doesn't start for 6 years. That should grow more by then. We are lucky that we live on base salaries and get big chunks of money in bonuses so we use that for investing and future savings.

8k per year per kid. This maxes the tax advantage in DC. It won't be enough, but we plan to cash flow the rest.

We do $8,400 a year.

But this question is so varied, your responses won’t mean much. Depends on income, what people plan to pay for. Etc.

Our number is based on our disposable income. We’ve got 2,800 a month. 700 goes to each 529, gen savings and vacation fund.

I have a 4 year old and 2 year old. I have 22k in one 529 and 17k in another. My plan was to put 4K in each every year but now I am starting to think it’s not enough and wondering what everyone else does.
