Am I the only one who liked this book best out of all the other Gillian Flynn books? I really enjoyed the Southern gothic, almost VC Andrews-like feel.

Its much MUCH better than the book. I think there is a lot more going on with this story than in the book too.
Amy Adams is excellent and the kid playing her younger self, perfect casting. They really got the eyes right.

Yes, it is a good quick read and perfect for beach reading.

Out of the G Flynn books I've read, I would rate this as the slowest build and weirdest outcome. Not planning to watch the series until all episodes are available. i think it will be a good binge, but watching and waiting week to week would drive me nuts!

I loved the book...it was so weird. Same author as Gone Girl for folks who don't know. Crazy story.

I thought it was good. i liked the book even though it was more than slightly ridiculous.
I thought the ep was a little slow, but then again the book built slowly, too. I was really curious how they would reveal what was revealed in the last scene. My husband, who hasn't read the book, had no idea what happened - he had to rewind and even then he didn't really catch what it was, so in that sense I am not sure it was all that successful.
It's hard, when you've read the books (adding in Big Little Lies) to really evaluate the presentation on its own. I think it was good and creepy and inspired the right amount of dread/horror, but it was a slow build and I think you'd end the first episode with a "what the hell is happening here" feeling. Lots of very subtle hints or very quick flashes of things that would be easy to miss if you didn't know they were important.

Bummed to hear it was slow, I've been looking forward to it. I'll watch it anyway, at least an episode or two.

the whole thing has a huge creep factor to it. Very slow but Amy Adams is good so far.

Agree. Lots of very dour Amy Adams ambling here and shuffling there. The very last scene was good, though.

The NPR interview/promo was so good! I don't have HBO nor have read the book, but I love Amy Adams and it seems like a really good show.
