We called our bank when we were approaching 80%, and the bank was very helpful letting us know how much we needed to pay off. We paid the lump sum, and the following month PMI came off as promised.

We just hit ours and received a letter from our mortgage company telling us the fee would be dropped, and the new payment amount would be reflected in our next statement.

Has anyone recently been successful in getting your lender to drop the PMI? Or has anyone recently refinanced the home loan to drop the PMI?
