When I volunteered at a shelter, we would often take the people’s information down and take a photo of the dog they found and allow them to take the dog home again if they wanted. Saved shelter space. Most ended up adopting. This was years ago before microchippong was big. Wonder if any shelters still do that?

Yes, it does give me hope. Despite my horrible phone typing ( sorry....) (above in 18:16), I just wanted to say that microchips are pretty faulty. And, yes, I really hope someone just took him in eventually.

There are different chip companies....the scan is not universal.

All my dogs were microchipped- only one of those chips came up in a scan- none of the otheres could be read. People do not realozew this.

OP-Good for you! A freind of ours losr a dog two years ago- different area. Despite a nationwide search, website, drones, psychic, rescue groups, thousands of people in three states searching, whatever...never found. My hope is that someone at least has him. My heart is broken when I think otherwise.

If the dog is in good hands, the vet that they take their dog to now would scan for a microchip. If the dog had a chip, the owners would’ve been contacted years ago.

+1 shelters in overpopulated areas adopt out stray dogs out in less time than that. Our dog was shipped north from a crowded southern shelter within a week of being picked up.

He's living the high life! I just want you to know he ended up ok!

We temporarily lived in N. Arlington, and our friends from Los Angeles came to visit us. The found a young dog (older puppy) that looks like a Chihuahua mix (looks like a Chihuahua but bigger and doesn't have a domed head), and he's all light beige and shorthaired. This was near Arlington Blvd, on N. Kensington St.

Our friends were in for a week, and we spent that week calling every shelter and vet, and came up with nothing. There were no signs posted that we could see. My DH is severely allergic to dogs so it was quite a week for us. So, when the search came up short, our friends bought a carrier and took the newly named Kensington back with them to Los Angeles. They have a pool and an ocean and city view (spectacular), and Kensie sits on top of a hedge and surveys all of Los Angeles and the sea. He is very busy barking, running, chasing, chewing, and generally getting into mischief, so we all totally get why he got away from his former owners. Only now he is slowing down a little, and I think that's because he's become rather sausage-like thanks to all the food and love he gets from his family (doted on by grandparents and loved by parents and kids).

I was watching him the other day (he was at his grandparents' house, which also has a magnificent view...his second home) running in circles and then hopping up on some vantage point, and I was thinking how much I wished the poor former owners could know, especially if they had kids, if they could know that their little dog ended up so happy and living a great life here in Southern California. Then I remembered DCUM.

So if you know anyone that might have been his prior family, please pass this on!
